Western Cape Ecumenical Network: COVID-19 Statement

Dear friends

The WCEN EXCO met last night (23 March 2020) to deliberate on the implications of President Ramaphosa’s announcement of a partial lockdown. Thereafter, we issued a statement that you received on your WhatsApp. The statement was a call to a common prayer and fasting in support of the 21-day lockdown. We propose the following:

  1. We all (families included) pray in the morning at 06:00, using the attached common prayer from the morning of the 26th March to the morning of the 17th April 2020.

  2. The prayers will be accompanied by a fast, from the morning of the 26th March to the morning of the 17th April 2020.

  3. The fast will be for 6hrs every day during this period – from 06:00 to 12:00.

  4. We encourage those who would like to pray more than we propose and fast longer than we propose, to do so.

  5. We also want all to take note that the 16th April is a review date and new harsher or less harsher measures will be announced before or on the review date.

Let’s ask God to do it again, he has done it before, and this is our time to glorify His name through the corona virus.

OUR GOD IS BIG ENOUGH!
